During the last 20 years there has been a significant increase in the use of textile shuttering in concrete works, particularly in water-side and underwater projects.

This has been possible due to the introduction of woven fabrics made of high-strength polyamide (nylon) yarn coupled with simplified installation working procedures, resulting in reduced working times.

Concrete mattresses are construction elements type lost shuttering with the following areas of application:
   - consolidation/ stabilization of embankments and steep slopes

       
   - recasting of and repairs to pillars, piles, quays

   - various designs for supporting and covering pipes

    
   - projects for repairing and protecting other concrete works

  
The proven advantages of these materials are:
   - fast installation which doesn't necessitate the lakes' depletion or a severe cleaning of the banks;
   - the possibility of installation into marine or aggressive mediums (residual waters);
   - adapting at the embankment's shape or at the repairing area.

Depending on the peculiarities of each project, the concrete mattresses are available in some ranges:
   - double-weave polyamide filterpoint-mattress with rectangular points 

 
   - double-weave polyamide mattress with distance threads to control thickness uniformity

   
   - single polyamide weave shuttering for use in piles works

   
   - ready woven sacks or geo-containers

These materials can come at the sizes existing in projects, in pannels with industrial zippers for connecting and plastic funnels to cast the concrete, prepared for a rapid installation.

In case that some adjustments are necessary in site, the material is delivered in rolls at standard sizes and the pannels' tailoring, zippers' and concrete funnels' mounting is rapid made with portable stitching machines.

Installation is simple and quickly, its success depending on some facts namely:

   - the quality and the workability of the concrete filled in the mattresses. Is important that concrete has quality and concordant resistances and to may be easy pumped into the mattress. Water in excess is rapid evacuated through the pores of geotextile (which acts like a filter) due to the pumping pressure.
In case of underwater works, the diver must have a permanent contact with the pumping station of the concrete.

   - correct fixing of the mattress to avoid a beneath erosion. This can be realised by digging trenches along the outer edges of the mattress which is filled with concrete and placed in these or with steel bolts:

   - the base layer on which mattresses are placed. Yhis must be leveled. Denivelations may be of ±0,15 m/ m2.
