Geosynthetic Clay Liners

Geosynthetic Clay Liners are prefab products which associate geosynthetic materials with bentonite realizing this way a tight and effective barrier becoming a material easy to put into operation, homogeneous and puncture resistant. These products are made of a natural material, bentonite which has a very low permeability due to its expansive capacity with geosynthetic materials which have role of protection and eventually of sealing.

Geosynthetic Clay Liners are made from three layers:

1. A support-layer from:
            - woven geotextile of polypropylene
            - geomembrane of high density

2. A bentonite layer - powder or granules

3. A capping layer from non-woven geotextile of polypropylene

The sealing function is generally assured by the bentonite which is submitted to a normal effort of compression during the hydration to permit the control for volume variation.

Applications of geosynthetic clay liners
  • landfill liners
  • landfill liners
  • impoundments
  • tanks' sealing
  • mining works
  • civil engineering works and transportation
  • isolating the contaminated lands

The advantages of geosynthetic clay liners

  • Competitive cost
  • Replace the compacted clay or the geomembranes
  • Good resistance at frost/ thaw and moistening/ drying
  • Good behaviour on slopes and at differential settling
  • Easy installation in unfavorable weather and field conditions
  • Self cicatrizing
  • Don't necessitate welding
  • Synergy effects when are associated with geomembranes in complex liners
  • Replace the compacted clay or the geomembranes at pools, lagoons, channels, irrigation works, wetlands, rush beds
  • The overlapping are easy made using bentonite powder
  • Are compatibles with cathode protections
  • Replacing the compacted clay or the geomembranes at mud-setting ponds
