Tensar® Geogrids
The Tensar® geogrids are materials made of high density polyethylene (HDPE) or polypropylene and they are used for soil reinforcement. There are two kinds of Tensar® geogrids: biaxial and uniaxial geogrids.
1. Biaxial Tensar® geogrids
Are used for soil reinforcement for road pavements, platforms, parking places, flight paths and they contribute at the foundations’ characteristics improvement.
The Tensar® geogrids’ role in foundations’ structure is to reinforce layers with a low bearing capacity both in case of roads and other trafficked areas. The moment when the granular material laid on Tensar® geogrid is compacted, the granular material interlocks with Tensar® geogrid’ aperture. Big loads may be applied with reduced deformations because biaxial Tensar® geogrids have an increased tensile strength.
Advantages:
-reduction of the granular layer’s thickness till 40% without quality loss
-quantity’s diminution of the excavated material
-reducing deformations and displacements into foundation
-well compacting for filling materials
-prolongation of working life
-control of differenced settlements
2. Uniaxial Tensar® geogrids
They are used to construct retaining walls. The Tensar® geogrids are reinforcing the soil (having various facings). The selection for a proper facing depends on many factors such as: local conditions, slope bent, economical and architectural reasons.

Uniaxial Tensar® geogrids are also used to construct bridge abutments. Their use leads to considerable savings and has multiples advantages: stability on long term, the possibility of using the excavated material, high resistance at dynamic loads and seismic shocks. The most proper face can be selected from a wide range (prefabricated concrete panels of different sizes, textures and colours, provided with fixtures, techniques which incorporate natural stone or brick, metal mesh, blocks systems).
